Buy less microphone. Buy more blanket.
These are the things that show up in the sample episode. Affiliate programs are not turned on. Nothing on this page is a tracked commission link. When Amazon Associates or a host program is approved, the disclosure will stay and the links will say so.
01
Moving blankets
Hang one behind you, where the mic is aimed, and one in a V just out of frame. You are stopping the first reflection, not building a studio. About forty dollars.
02
Dynamic microphone
A dynamic mic is a little deaf, which is a feature next to cymbals, a computer fan, or a street. The demo episode uses an SM7B. A cheaper dynamic is fine if it can sit a fist from your mouth.
03
Small audio interface
One clean preamp is enough. Move the mic close, then turn the gain down. Hiss is often a distant mic and a hot knob, not a missing plugin.
04
Closed-back headphones
Open headphones leak into the mic. Closed-back keeps the guest, the click, and the drummer in the other room out of the vocal track.
05
A camera you already trust
Clips need a face or a waveform, not a cinema kit. A phone on a locked tripod is enough if the sound is the thing you fixed.
The longer version is the post Podcast gear for beginners, from a drum room.
